The short version: this is a free, educational estimating tool — not financial, investment, tax, legal, or government-benefits advice. The numbers it shows are illustrations based on inputs you choose. Real investment returns vary, ABLE / SSI / Medicaid rules change and have fine print this tool can only summarize, and benefits decisions can have serious consequences. Before making any real decision, confirm with your state's ABLE program, the Social Security Administration, and a qualified professional. Use it at your own risk.

Not professional or benefits advice

This tool does not provide financial, investment, tax, legal, accounting, or government-benefits advice, and using it does not create any advisory or professional relationship. It is a self-service calculator for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing it displays should be taken as a recommendation to take — or not take — any particular action, including whether to open an ABLE account, which state's program to choose, how much to contribute, how to invest, or how to manage SSI or Medicaid eligibility. This tool also sells nothing — it runs no ads and has no affiliate, referral, or sponsorship relationships with any ABLE program, brokerage, bank, or financial company, so it earns nothing from what you decide and has no incentive to steer you toward any product or provider.

Benefits rules are summarized, not restated

The SSI $100,000 resource exclusion, the suspension (rather than termination) of SSI cash payments, continued Medicaid eligibility, the $2,000 SSI resource limit, ABLE-to-Work eligibility, and Medicaid estate recovery ("payback") are governed by federal statute, SSA operating procedures, and state rules with substantial fine print — including how distributions are timed and spent, what counts as a qualified disability expense, and state-by-state payback differences. This tool presents a simplified model of those rules. A real benefits decision should be confirmed with the Social Security Administration, your state Medicaid agency, or a benefits counselor before you act.

Estimates, not guarantees

Every figure is a projection built from the inputs you provide (ages, balances, contributions, wages, expected returns, tax rates, and other assumptions) using simplified math. Real life differs: investment returns vary year to year and can be negative, contribution limits are inflation-indexed and change annually, and tax outcomes depend on your full situation. The account comparison makes simplifying assumptions (identical returns across accounts, current tax law) that may not match your circumstances. Actual results will differ. No accuracy, completeness, or outcome is promised, and the calculations may contain errors.

State tax figures are a summary

The state deduction and credit figures are a good-faith summary of 2026 rules gathered from public sources in July 2026. States change these rules, and most have fine print — income limits, per-beneficiary versus per-taxpayer caps, carryforward provisions, recapture on non-qualified withdrawals — that a one-line summary cannot capture. Always confirm with your state's program documents or tax authority before relying on a deduction or credit.

Verify with the official sources

For large or irreversible choices — rollovers, benefits interactions, special needs trust coordination, estate planning — consider a benefits counselor, a special-needs planning attorney, or a fee-only fiduciary advisor who is paid for advice rather than for selling a product.

Independent & unaffiliated

This is an independent, privately made tool. It is not created, endorsed, sponsored, or reviewed by any government agency, state ABLE program, the ABLE National Resource Center, brokerage, or financial company. "ABLE" refers to accounts under Section 529A of the Internal Revenue Code, created by the Achieving a Better Life Experience Act.

Voluntary support

This tool is free to use. If a "tip" or "support" option is offered, any payment is a voluntary gift, is not a purchase of the tool or of any service, is not required to use any feature, and is non-refundable. Supporting the project does not entitle you to advice, support, or any particular result, and does not change any part of this disclaimer.
